Senior Data Engineer
📍 UK Wide / Home working + client site travel
💰 £75,000 – £100,000
🔒 Must be eligible for SC Clearance
You’ll work across a variety of client projects spanning UK Government and private sector organisations, helping design and deliver modern cloud-based data platforms that enable analytics, reporting and machine learning,
Expensed travel to client sites across the UK is required, typically averaging around 6–8 visits per month depending on the engagement.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing, building and optimising scalable data pipelines using modern ETL/ELT approaches
- Working across Azure and/or AWS cloud environments
- Developing solutions using technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Fabric, Spark, Airflow, dbt and other modern data tooling
- Building and maintaining data platforms that support analytics, reporting, machine learning and wider business intelligence initiatives
- Designing data models and implementing data quality, governance and observability best practices
- Applying software engineering principles including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and automated testing
- Collaborating closely with client stakeholders, architects, engineers and data teams to deliver high-quality solutions
What they’re looking for
- Proven experience delivering production-grade Data Engineering solutions in cloud environments
- Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers and working directly with stakeholders to deliver data solutions.
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience with Azure and/or AWS
- Hands-on experience with one or more modern data platforms including Databricks, Snowflake or Microsoft Fabric
- Experience building and maintaining data pipelines using technologies such as Spark, Airflow, dbt or similar
- Good understanding of data modelling, performance optimisation, governance and data quality principles
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients and stakeholders
- Eligible for SC Clearance
Nice to have
- Experience supporting machine learning, AI or advanced analytics workloads
- Experience within consulting, professional services or client-facing delivery environments
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
