Senior Data Engineer

We’re supporting a global technology consultancy who are expanding their AI & Data practice and are looking to hire Senior Data Engineers to help clients build the data platforms that power analytics, machine learning and Generative AI solutions.
You’ll work across a variety of client engagements spanning government and commercial organisations, designing and delivering modern cloud-based data platforms that enable AI adoption at scale.
Expensed travel to client sites across the UK is required, typically averaging around 6–8 visits per month depending on the engagement.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing and building modern cloud data platforms on Azure and/or AWS
- Developing scalable data pipelines and ELT frameworks using technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Fabric and Spark
- Building trusted, governed data foundations that support analytics, machine learning and GenAI workloads
- Working with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data sources
- Supporting the development of AI use cases including RAG, vector search, feature engineering and model enablement
- Implementing software engineering best practices including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and automated testing
- Collaborating with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Architects and client stakeholders to deliver AI-ready solutions
- Providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers and contributing to solution design across client engagements
What they’re looking for
- Proven experience delivering production-grade Data Engineering solutions in cloud environments
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Azure and/or AWS experience
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, Snowflake or Microsoft Fabric
- Experience building scalable data pipelines using Spark, Airflow, dbt or similar technologies
- Experience supporting machine learning, AI or advanced analytics workloads
- Understanding of modern AI data architectures, including data preparation, retrieval patterns and scalable data access
- Experience leading teams, mentoring engineers or acting as a technical lead on data engineering projects
- Strong stakeholder engagement and client-facing communication skills
- Eligible for SC Clearance
Nice to have
- Experience with LLMs, RAG architectures or vector databases
- Exposure to Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Vertex AI or similar platforms
- Experience working alongside Data Science or MLOps teams
- Terraform, Kubernetes or broader platform engineering experience
- Consulting or professional services experience
