Job Title: Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Systems Engineer
Location: Oxfordshire (Hybrid Working Available)
Role: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £40,000-£90,000

Due to continued growth and exciting project demand, they are looking to appoint a Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Systems Engineer to join their highly talented technical team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex and cutting-edge missions, contributing to the development of advanced Guidance, Navigation, Control and Computer Vision systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, integration, verification and ongoing development of mission-critical technologies that push the boundaries of what’s possible in the space sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of GNC systems, including requirements capture, verification strategies and fault detection, isolation and recovery (FDIR) activities.
  • Support the integration of GNC algorithms, Computer Vision solutions and associated hardware.
  • Contribute to subsystem development, verification planning and overall technical solution delivery.
  • Collaborate with wider engineering teams to ensure system compatibility and mission performance requirements are achieved.
  • Undertake research into advanced GNC technologies, architectures and subsystem design approaches.
  • Support algorithm development and hardware selection activities for complex mission requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of GNC software architectures and system-level solutions.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders to define requirements and present technical solutions.
  • Provide engineering support to programme and technical leadership teams.
  • Support operational analysis and performance activities throughout mission lifecycles.

Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related Engineering/Scientific discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience within a Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) environment.
  • Strong Matlab/Simulink development experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of GNC subsystem architecture development.
  • Hands-on experience across at least three of the following areas:
    • GNC requirements derivation and verification
    • Control law and navigation algorithm design
    • Guidance strategies and mission planning
    • Translating algorithms into operational software solutions
    • Hardware integration and testing
    • Advanced GNC technologies and hardware selection
    • Sensor, navigation or capture system technologies
  • Strong systems engineering mindset with the ability to operate within multidisciplinary technical teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience developing rendezvous, docking or autonomous navigation solutions.
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics, flight dynamics or relative positioning systems.
  • Experience supporting operational space or satellite missions.
  • C/C++ software development skills.
  • Embedded software development experience.
  • Knowledge of advanced space mission concepts and emerging technologies.
